Dear client,
The ripple effects of COVID-19 will undoubtedly have a significant impact on our society, and it is critical that you take proactive steps to protect your family and your business against fraud. Given the current climate, it is possible that we will see an increase in fraudulent attempts by internal and external parties. It is now the time to remain hyper-vigilant. Please see below the statistics captured by Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) based on an April 2020 survey of 96 anti-fraud professionals.
As many businesses adopt virtual working environments or permit new connections to their systems, an increase in the number of criminals trying to steal personal and intellectual property information has been made public. This is often through phishing emails claiming to be from the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention or other organisations responsible for providing information relating to COVID-19. These COVID-19 financial crime risks mean that we need to become “online smart” and adopt stringent measures to safeguard our data and resources.
